General Note

This is a review of the accessibility of Joe’s Pub at The Public as a way to prep folks with various needs before they visit.

This is not meant to scare anyone away from going. As I say when I review shows, most have about the same amount of content warnings and sensory warnings to go along with it, they’re just rarely explicitly written out.

For some people, knowing these things ahead of time makes it easier to enjoy their experience because they know what to expect and can accommodate their needs better. And, often, makes those people more likely to see it in the first place. I hope that it’s helpful!

I am also happy to clarify any specifics, just send me a message or an email and I will respond when I can.

Access

  • The Joe’s Pub entrance is the same as the entrance to The Public. Once you go inside it will be on your left. It is either up 3 small stairs or up a ramp that can be accessed by going to the back wall and taking a left

  • The restrooms are located by the bottom of the ramp (back left of the building) and are divided into the binary but have a sign that says “Gender diversity is welcomed here; please use the restroom that best fits your gender identity or expression. To access gender neutral restrooms, please ask a staff member for assistance.”

  • For questions around accessibility, you can call 212.967.7555 or email accessibility@publictheater.org

  • For information about other spaces at The Public, they have a very thorough accessibility page on their website!
